500 years of royal festivities

On the front page

In 1518, exactly 500 years ago, the château of Amboise was the setting for grandiose celebrations to mark the baptism of the dauphin prince François (eldest son of François Ier) and the marriage of the Pope’s nephew, Lorenzo II de Medici. These exceptional events, also the setting for high political dealings, gathered around the king all the kingdom’s high-ranking dignitaries and ambassadors from the European royal courts.

In 2018, the château of Amboise will bring back to life the atmosphere of these events with a season of entertainment called “500 years of royal festivities”. The figureheads of this programme of events are two grand Renaissance balls that will be held in the evening in May and July. Shows and entertainment (grand Renaissance balls, juggling and dance displays, pyrotechnics) and a new, guided visit for families (see below) will complete this very royal events calendar !

Renaissance Balls, with the “King’s Banquet” company; on 9th May and 23rd July at 8.30pm

Dance and pyrotechnics shows, with the “Arche en Sel” company; on 10th may and 23rd July
