For guided visits with commentary of the Royal Loggia and the St. Hubert Chapel (tomb of Leonardo da Vinci), there is a selection of five visits adapted to each level of the French Education Ministry’s national programme, created with support from the Indre-et-Loire Academic Board.
Includes the teacher’s booklet (document in French downloadable after booking) and access to the teaching area at the end of the visit.
- Visit 1 "The Château of the Valois Kings" (Reception, Year 1, Year 2)
- Visit 2 "The Court of the Valois Kings, cradle of the French Renaissance" (Year 4, Year 5, Year 6)
- Visit 3 "The Antiquities and Religion at the heart of the French Renaissance" (Year 7)
- Visit 4 "The Great developments of the French Renaissance" (Year 8)
- Visit 5 "The slow construction of a modern state and the opening towards the world" (Years 9-13)
Last afternoon departure: 1 hr before the ticket office closes, from 1/03 to 15/11; 30 minutes before the ticket office closes from 16/11 to 28/02.

SPECIAL GUIDED VISIT
5th centenary of Leonardo da Vinci's time in Amboise
Guided visits with a lecturer-guide from the Château, available throughout the year, booking required. Commentary in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish and Portguese (50 ppl. max/group)
500 years after the Florentine master resided in Amboise, the lecturer-guides retrace Leonardo da Vinci\'s odyssey to Amboise where he was the guest of King François 1er from 1516 to 1519. During this time he revealed some previously unknown talents which he then used in the service of the sovereign.
Duration of the visit: 1 hour.

« king's marvellous animals »

This year, younger visitors can also meet the ‘king’s marvellous animals’, a new visitor experience* to be enjoyed with a château guide.
Objects of pleasure and exoticism, ferocious game, symbols of strength or courage, fantastical beasts and mechanised lions, the animals were there to dazzle the courtisans and magnify the king’s persona… A marvellous bestiary, of a scarcely believable wealth!
*The experiences are presented successively during the visit: projection of the parrrots’ colours, shooting practice, card games, giant puzzle, Popinjay game.
SPECIAL AUDIO-GUIDED VISIT
«Christmas through the centuries»
From 1st december 2018 to 06 january 2019 "Christmas, Christmas!" These cries of joy from the princes still resonate through the royal loggia. However, the nativity festivities have changed a great deal over centuries of traditions, from the Renaissaince to the 18th and 19th centuries. Discover the specially hung, magical decorations, complemented by audio commentaries and appropriate music.
Available in French and English.
A €4 supplement is payable, which includes a presentation of the permanent collections, with commentary.

The Royal Château of Amboise was the playground for the kings’ children. Charles VIII, François 1er and the children of King Henri II and Catherine de Medici were raised here. Guide included in the château entrance ticket price.

USING A VISITOR GUIDE
Individual visitors can discover the château and its gardens at their own pace using a visitor guide. Guide available in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Hungarian, Czech, Romanian, Brazilian, Japanese, Chinese (traditional & simplified) and Korean.
Visitor guide included in château entrance ticket price.
TOWERS AND UNDERGROUND AREAS
"The Corridors of History"
From 7 years old (minors must be accompanied),
Groups will get the exceptional opportunity to enter the underground passageways and towers of the medieval fortress situated under the Renaissance royal loggia. Thus they will enter at the foot of the ramparts in the Garconnet Tower, built in the 15th century on the orders of Louis XI, before reaching the Lys Room, former guards’ refectory. From there, they will take a round trip through the ditches of the former keep and walk along the rooms where stone was stored. Visitors will then enter the underground mazes before reaching the Minimes cavalry tower.
