The Histopad visit

HISTOPAD

The HistoPad tablet is a mediation tool based on augmented reality. Given free of charge when you go to the ticket office, it accompanies you throughout your visit and allows you to enrich your discovery through restitutions of decorations, historical objects and the provision of additional information. The HistoPad route includes the Saint Hubert chapel and all the rooms of the royal residence. The HistoPad is a very easy-to-use device, accessible to everyone!

On busy days it is possible that only one Histopad per family will be given to you.

Visitors with disabilities or reduced mobility

CUSTOMISED TOURS

The castle is an ancient medieval fortress located on a rocky promontory overlooking the Loire River. As a listed historical monument, it does not always offer facilities that meet contemporary accessibility standards. For this reason, the presence of an able-bodied companion is mandatory. However, for several years now, the château has been committed to a policy of improvements and services designed to facilitate the visit for disabled visitors. In 2022, the château was awarded the National Association’s ‘Tourisme & Handicap’ label for motor, hearing and visual disabilities.

PHYSICAL DISABILITY
Visitors with reduced mobility can access the château directly by car via the private entrance at the end of Rue Augustin Thierry in Amboise (GPS coordinates: N47.41.31.44 / EO: 988.904). Access for people with reduced mobility

The first two floors of the royal residence (dedicated to the Renaissance) and the entire garden are wheelchair accessible. The second floor (dedicated to the 19th century), the only area that is physically inaccessible to wheelchairs, is accessible via a special version of the HistoPad tablet (available free of charge at the ticket office, in 12 languages). A freely accessible lift connects the disabled parking area to the toilets, café, shop and ticket office.

VISUAL DISABILITY
In the guards’ room (the first room on the tour route), tactile models of the castle are available for visitors with visual impairments. These allow visitors to understand the layout of the monument through touch. Appropriate markers (contrast strips, etc.) are also positioned throughout the route to ensure the safety of our visitors.

HEARING DISABILITY
The HistoPad tablet (available free of charge at the ticket office, in 12 languages), which contains text, images and videos without sound, allows visitors with hearing impairments to enjoy the entire tour in excellent conditions.
