The values of the Saint-Louis Foundation

The Saint-Louis Foundation, recognised as a charity since 1974, is responsible, amongst other things, for the conservation and promotion of the historic sites of the Royal Château of Amboise, the Royal Estate of Dreux and the Château of Bourbon-l’Archambault, as well as for managing France’s largest collection of private archives, held in trust at the National Archives. As a key player in heritage conservation, it also plays a significant role in the tourism sector, with hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world visiting its sites each year. The Saint-Louis Foundation is committed to promoting its properties in a sustainable manner, whilst respecting the centuries-old traditions of craftspeople and preserving the natural environment in which these monuments were built. In this way, it aims to contribute to sustainable tourism that respects ‘both the stones and the people’. Since the end of 2025, the Saint-Louis Foundation has been committed to a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Certificate

I, the undersigned, Marc METAY, Secretary-General of the Saint-Louis Foundation, hereby certify that the Foundation is fully committed to environmental and social responsibility.
The Saint-Louis Foundation, and in particular the Royal Château of Amboise and its management team, are working, in collaboration with all staff, to reduce the ecological footprint of the château’s activities through concrete measures for the sustainable management of resources on a day-to-day basis.

With this in mind, a number of CSR objectives have been set for 2026, including the following:

1. Improving energy efficiency
– Replacement of the boiler in the General Secretariat to reduce energy consumption
– Launch of a master plan for works: a study into climate control in the Royal Residence

2. Waste reduction and recycling
– Waste sorting (plastic, cardboard, green waste). Clear signage will be put in place, accompanied by staff training
– Reducing the production of plastic waste and prioritising the use of recycled and refillable materials.
– Implementing a system to monitor consumption (water, electricity, gas)

3. Environmental responsibility in procurement and supplier management
– Inclusion of an environmental requirement clause (reduction of plastic packaging, sustainable logistics) in tenders and supplier contracts.
– Raising suppliers’ awareness of the need to reduce packaging and adopt eco-designed products.

4. Protection of biodiversity
– Establishing partnerships with organisations committed to protecting biodiversity (LPO nature reserves)
– Planned collaboration with organisations specialising in botanical management and the reintroduction of local species, such as Fredon France (plant clinic)
